EMDR is an evidence-based practice known to help those who have depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and trauma. When someone experiences trauma, the brain may not fully process what happened. The memory can stay active, causing symptoms like:
Flashbacks or nightmares
Strong emotional reactions
Anxiety or feeling constantly on edge
Avoidance of reminders
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps the brain do what it naturally wants to do: heal and process the memory.
During EMDR, you briefly focus on a difficult memory while following a therapist’s guided eye movements or other gentle back-and-forth stimulation. This allows the memory to lose its emotional intensity and become stored as something that happened in the past—not something that feels like it’s happening now.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a powerful and innovative psychotherapy technique primarily used to treat trauma and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. The core principle behind ART is the client does not forget the facts of the incident but does not have the sensations or negative emotions when thinking about the incident that brought them into therapy.
ART works by guiding the client to focus on the negative mental images related to their trauma, and then using a combination of techniques, including eye movements, to help the brain reprocess these images. The therapist helps the client replace these negative images with more positive images of their choosing, effectively rewiring the emotional response to the traumatic memories. You could see results in 1-5 sessions on a given incident.
